About Village Panchayat Piligao
Village Panchayat Piligao, also known as pilgao, is a charming village located in the northern part of the capital state of Goa city of Bicholim. The village is mainly known for the greenery and the temples.
In the past, Piligao was considered the granary of north Goa during the Portuguese era, as vast tracts of agricultural land were then under rice cultivation. Agriculture and horticulture were the main occupations of the villagers, with rice being cultivated during monsoon and vegetables grown in summer. The flat portion on the hilltops were utilized to grow lady fingers, Raggi (finger millet), snake gourd, ridge gourd, etc., in the monsoon season.
Piligao is known for temple of Shri Devi Chamundeshwari Temple and Shri Shantadurga temple. Village also has the famous school name “Ideal High school”.
The village has a total population of 2,643 with 900+ households and is divided into 7 wards as per the electoral division. However, due to mass immigration from other states of India, high-rise housing constructions have taken over vast areas of agricultural land in Piligao, which has transformed the village into an urban settlement.
Overall, Piligao is a beautiful and historic village that has undergone significant changes over the years.
